Fire Safety

Stay Safe at Home

A few simple habits can save lives. Here are the basics every Moonachie household should follow. More materials on our Education page →

01

Test Your Alarms

Test smoke and CO detectors monthly and replace batteries twice a year. Working alarms cut the risk of dying in a fire in half.

02

Plan Two Ways Out

Know two exits from every room and pick an outside meeting place. Practice your home escape plan with the whole family.

03

Mind the Kitchen

Never leave cooking unattended. Keep flammables away from the stove and keep a lid nearby to smother grease fires.

04

Clear Hydrants

Keep hydrants and your house numbers visible — in an emergency, every second we save finding you matters.

05

Burn Candles Safely

Keep candles at least 12 inches from anything that can burn, set them on sturdy surfaces, and never leave them lit unattended. Blow them out before leaving the room or going to sleep.
